In today’s digitalized world and with the recent Pandemic, everyone is feeling a lot more pressured with stagnant situations, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, going out of business and getting in critical health conditions; a lot has happened in the past few years, and it affects how we think and how we see things. Most of us are dwelling and lingering on the negativity the recent years had to offer. These Negative thoughts don’t leave us quickly; they take us in a comfort zone and allow us to sit and stress.
Later, these lead to serious mental health issues, such as Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Some of the symptoms these illnesses have are lack of appetite and sleeping problems, leading to other health issues like Hypertension and Diabetes.
Negative thoughts highly contribute to low self-worth and confidence. Professional therapists and counselors offer help to overcome these negative thoughts and help us change how we see things, be more positive, and believe in ourselves. However, these services can be costly and, with recent pay cuts, people are just trying to spend on the essentials. Therefore, here are some helpful tips that can assist you to independently change your mindset and achieve a new and better insight.
Understanding your feelings: Whether Happy or Sad, it is essential to acknowledge how you’re feeling, it is okay to be sad, and it’s also okay if you wish to cry over something. Allow yourself to cry and feel lighter; suppressing will only make it worse.
Expressing your feelings to someone you trust: Meet your friends or family for a coffee and discuss how you’re feeling, give yourself a well-deserved break; who knows, maybe your friend is also going through the same, and you both can help each other. If distance and restrictions don’t allow for a meet-up, try and plan something virtually; it can always be as exciting as regular meet-ups.
Self-Love: Try to put yourself first. Don’t overwork yourself for others, for any businesses, they can replace you in a minute. So, only put it what’s expected from you and how much you can deliver. Take the break to disengage and re-engage.
Being Thankful: Many things can be wrong, but some can be right. If you’re not sick, got money in your pocket to feed you and a few people you can count on. Count this as a blessing and be thankful.
Rest up: Getting enough sleep on a daily basis is very important. Try and take at least eight hours of sleep daily; this will allow your body & mind to relax and be more active the next day.
Cutting off: Good or Bad Friends; in today’s world, having many friends is a new fashion trend on our social media, but are all friends good friends? It’s important to recognize friends that make jokes or comments on your appearance or dominate you in what they think is right. It would help if you cut off on such friends, not only when they make you feel miserable. But get other friends to follow them, soon all your friends will behave in the same manner, choose not to tolerate any insults in the name of friendship, you deserve friends who uplift you and compliment you.
Gratitude Journal: We have good days and bad days, It is helpful to keep a thankful journal, recording positive things that have happened to you, and on bad days this journal helps you look back, appreciate and hope for better days.
Self-Talk: Tell yourself you’re worth it, you’re beautiful and you deserve the best. This helps to keep a positive mind and gain confidence in everything you do. We often believe what we tell ourselves.
Bad Words: Do not refer to yourself with words like, I am such a fool, I am so clumsy, I can’t do a thing right, No one loves me. These comments to your own self can be lowering your self-esteem and you have no idea, be careful of what you tell yourself because you are listening and acting on those.
Planning: Since most of us are working from home a lot these days and have families around, it might be difficult to manage all at once. It is important to plan your day out, keep realistic goals, and be careful to not overwhelm yourself. These planning notes will help during rush hours and you won’t forget a thing, less disappointment, and more productivity.
Music: It is often believed that music has the power to connect us with our emotions. Create a playlist with music & songs that make you feel happy and positive. Keep them in your phone and listen when you feel low.
Meditation: One of the most effective ways to achieve positivity. It allows you to pause your thoughts, imagine yourself in the peace you desire, this helps your mind to shift from negativity to positivity.
In order to achieve a positive mindset, it is crucial to follow these tips in a disciplined way, results might not show instantly, but, push yourself to positivity. Eventually, you’ll see the result you have been waiting for.
